FAQ

Short answers to the questions people ask most.

What counts as a domain?

A domain is a web address you own, like yourbakery.com, with its subdomains (shop.yourbakery.com, www.yourbakery.com). Pingerer is priced per domain, and each one includes every kind of check: uptime, SSL, domain expiry, DNS changes and email setup, up to 10 addresses and 5 heartbeats. A server watched by its IP address counts as a domain, and so does each multi-step check. Domains whose checks are all paused don't count. How billing works.

How often do you check?

Uptime checks run as often as your plan allows (see pricing). SSL is checked every 6 hours, DNS every 15 minutes, and domain and email setup once a day.

Where do checks come from?

From our probes in several regions. On the Paid plan checks take turns between them and confirm failures from another region; the free plan checks from one. IP addresses and allowlisting.

I got an alert but my site works. Why?

Usually because it really was unreachable for a short while from the internet, or a firewall or bot protection blocked our checks. See Why was I alerted? and Avoiding false alarms.

Can I change plans or cancel?

Yes, from Billing, any time, and you can switch between monthly and yearly billing there too. When you cancel, your plan stays until the end of the period you paid for, then the account moves to the free plan. Nothing is deleted, though the newest domains over the free plan's limit are paused until you upgrade again. Billing and plans.

Which countries can get SMS alerts?

The US and Canada to start. SMS alerts and credits.

Is there an API?

Yes, a REST API and a command-line tool. API and CLI.

Where is my data, and can I delete it?

On servers in Germany and the United States. You can delete sites, or your whole account, at any time. Deleting a site stops its checks and keeps its history. Deleting your account stops everything at once, and within 30 days we remove everything that names you: your name, email, team members, alert addresses and phone numbers. We may keep monitoring history and billing records, linked to no one. See the privacy policy.
